The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s finally here. It still may be blazing hot outside, but the feeling of fall has arrived. Labor Day Weekend means three things to me:

1. We’re [hopefully] on the downward spiral of the heat.

2. My Fall decorations come out of their hiding spot in the attic.

and…

3. COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

LaTech lsu_football_wallpapers1268439182

We’re Tech grads and root on our Bulldogs in our hearts. Here in south Louisiana, they don’t play on TV as much, but we follow scores and cheer on our alma mater. And, even though it’s blasphemous and controversial to some of our other Tech grads, we’re (mainly I) are Tiger fans!

We kicked off the official start to the season last night with…what else? A party!

It’s not a party until someone brings a Chick-Fil-A tray.

Touchdown!

We were, of course, very pleased with the outcome of the game! We’re looking forward to a great season of SEC and WAC football!

Our First Family Vacation

On Tuesday, we loaded up the Acadia and headed west to Galveston, TX for our first ever just-the-three-of-us vacation. I quickly learned why my parents always had less fun than we did on trips, but I love seeing that little man smile, so it was definitely worth it.

We left around 8:30am, stopped for some yummy goodness at our new Chick-Fil-A, then hit the road! When we got to the ferry, we thought we were just in time, but we missed it and had to wait for the next one. Bummer. Luckily daddy rigged our car with movies.

Two cuties in the backseat watching Curious George!

After about 45 minutes, we finally got on the ferry. Brayden loved it. He loves all things transportation so riding on the “boat” was right up his alley.

Sweet boy still has his unfortunate cowlick.

After getting off the ferry, we headed to Moody Gardens! I don’t have many pictures because I couldn’t figure out the right settings for my camera. Brayden loved it though. We even met up with some friends from my online group and we really enjoyed meeting everyone! Brayden loved exploring the pyramids…especially the seals and the penguins.

IMG_9657 IMG_9659 IMG_9665 IMG_9674 IMG_9679

Moody Gardens also has a Discovery Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, and a paddleboat. And Brayden’s personal favorite…Diego movie in 4D. He was in love.

IMG_9693 IMG_9694 IMG_9701

And this is where my semi-decent photo documentation stops.

That evening, after checking into our hotel, we headed to Rainforest Cafe for supper. Brayden was THAT child while waiting to be seated, but he stopped screaming when we got a table and we all had a great time. Brayden loved all the animals and eating in the “rainforest.”

The next day, we went on a “train” ride around Galveston. The advertisement was for a train, and the train wound up being a pink trailer with seats being pulled by a jeep. Good thing almost three year olds can’t really tell the difference. The ride was a tour of the historical homes on the island, which I actually found to be very interesting. Brayden just liked riding.

All in all, we had a great trip! Can’t wait for more family fun in the future!

Brayden Update

I have been meaning to do this for a long time, and I will regret not doing it more often, but I need to post on the things Brayden is doing and saying. More for me to look back on (and possibly scrapbook…if I can ever get passed his 6th week. Yes, I am THAT far behind). If this kind of thing bores you, feel free to skip. :)

Brayden is officially 2 years and 9 months old. In some ways I can’t believe he’s that old, and in other ways it seems like he’s been here forever. I can’t remember my life without him. When he’s off with grandparents and I’m alone, I find myself not knowing what to do with myself.

IMG_9562

He weighs between 26-27 pounds and he’s around 36ish inches tall. He has stayed this size for a long time. He wears 18 month or 2T shirts and mostly 18 month shorts. He’s worn this size for over a year now…we’re definitely getting good use out of our clothes! He wears between a 7 or an 8 in shoes, depending on the brand.

Sweet boy LOVES to be outside. And he is for sure his father’s son: he loves to drive anything and everything. And he’s pretty good at it. He loves cars, trains, planes, etc. He also loves animals. We have an animal book that we’ve read no less than 100 times. He can sit and play with his toys for the longest time by himself, just talking and making up sweet stories. He’s very easily amused and easily entertained. He also loves to play with his play kitchen, read books, do puzzles, color, and snuggle his teddy bear. Every night when he goes to bed he has to pick a toy to get in his bed with him. Sometimes we forget to take them out and his bed winds up looking like a toy box after a few days.

He’s still a really picky eater. He mainly snacks throughout the day rather than eat “meals.” He likes fish sticks, chicken, peanut butter, bread products, fruit, yogurt, and snacky foods. We hope he’ll learn to like new foods over time…we’ll see.

IMG_9594

His favorite shows to watch on TV are Diego, Curious George, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Jake & the Neverland Pirates. He knows all of his colors (even the boring ones like brown and black), all of his shapes (including diamond, heart, star, etc), and can count up to ten. He is starting to recognize some letters – he has the B down pat. He can sing songs and loves to perform when he isn’t feeling shy. He loves knowing what’s going to happen next and will ask a thousand questions on our way out the door. Where we’re going, what car we’re riding in, who’s coming, etc. He likes to be kept in the loop. ;) He LOVES his grandparents and great grandparents and the feeling is definitely mutual. We’re so grateful to have so many family members nearby who love and dote on our boy as much as we do (and sometimes more!).  Brayden is also a huge mama’s boy. He would move mountains for his mama and it totally melts my heart.

IMG_9501

He is still attending daycare, and usually comes home with good reports. :) He talks about his little friends all of the time. He loves his cousin Macky and asks to go see her all of the time. He also does well in the church nursery on Sundays. He’s definitely more on the quiet side at first, but warms up after a while. He likes his alone time, especially in the afternoons when we get home from school. He’s always been a good sleeper…he usually asks to go to bed and we still have to wake him up every single morning (and he grouches and complains). On the weekends he sleeps until around 9. He still takes a nap most days, but can go without one and be mostly ok. We’re working on potty training and will hopefully be successful in the next few months.

IMG_9578

Sweet boy, you are the light of our world. You turned your mommy and daddy’s lives upside down but we wouldn’t trade it for the world. You make us look forward to each day and make us want to be better people and to make the world a better place. We never knew how something so small could take up so much room in our hearts.

4th of July

Original title, huh? ;)

We once again spent our fun filled day in Longville. I seem to always post about being there, but it’s just where I usually find time to pull my camera out (and yet I never seem to get any family pictures.)

As soon as we arrived, Brayden got right to his favorite activity…riding the mule.  On this rare occasion, he allowed Mackenly to ride too.

IMG_9545

Brayden would ride this all day if someone would drive him. It’s pretty easy to convince his Paw Paw. ;)

He also loves running around outside, petting/feeding the horses, and getting dirty. We rarely go in our yard at home, so he takes full advantage while we’re out in the country.

Mackenly had on a lot of accessories today. :) She and Brayden are in cahoots and they run around like mad people when they’re together.

Fooooood! :)

Later in the afternoon, after running the mule dry and blowing bubbles, Brayden and Mackenly enjoyed a summer treat…watermelon!

Lately

I know, I know. Blogging slacker over here. I had good intentions, but oh well.

We went on a trip to Houston for our anniversary. We happened to wander into the Apple store, and came out with this:

ipad

I’m a happy girl.

On Father’s Day, we went to church, then ate lunch with Jason’s parents. Afterwards, we headed to Longville for some country fun.

Don’t they look 15 in those pictures?! When did they get so big?

On Monday, we went to Prien Lake Park to celebrate Eva's third birthday and to take some pictures. We’re so blessed to have so many sweet family members, and family members that are Brayden’s size. Brayden loves playing with Eva, and they are so cute together!

Another post coming soon!
